Well, the good news is that there's no getting rid of the wound. A cybernetic will give you sight back, and it can give you some other major advantages, but it's never going to be the part you lost, not really.
Totally waterproof, you'd be good swimming with it-- gotta be a little more careful with stuff like sand and grit because it can get scratched up. I can give you a set of tools to keep it maintained, but in the absolute worst case scenario of it breaking and you having no way of fixing it, you can pull the whole thing out and you'll be no worse off than you are now.
Biggest risk is the surgery. We'd need one of the surgeons on board to connect the cybernetic to your optic nerve, but once it's in and fitted, it's pretty easy to repair and take apart inside your head if you need too.
