It wasn't discomfort. He just had a mouth full of half chewed cookie.
The question makes him frown though, and he props his chin on his hand.
"Right now? I'm going to let him lie in the infirmary and recover. Beyond that - would you believe you're not on the list of people who are owed an answer to that question?"
Okay, that's a little bit more justification for Fives to be coming in super hot, but Rhys stays guarded.
"Oh, and what do you want, revenge? What do you want me to do to my Hutt-fucking inmate?"
Rhys finally stands up, squaring his shoulders. Hux... Hux is terrible. His actions aren't worth defending. But Rhys is also conscious of what an unbelievably easy target he makes of himself, and he can't help but stand his ground, knowing the tension that already exists between Fives and his inmate.
Fives doesn't move back to give him more room when he stands, which puts them almost chest to chest and virtually at eye level. "I want you, as his kriffing warden, to give the pathetic coward a really good reason to not to do that again. To anyone. But especially not to an untrained teenage girl, even if she still managed to hand his shebs to him."
[OOC: assuming Rhys's height is around 6' or so, based on what little I could find online, correct me if I'm wrong and I'll edit. Fives is just barely over 6']
"Okay, so as it stands, he's been humiliated, injured, lost his only weapon, a huge chunk of his privacy and freedom is gone. I could lock him up in zero, but he'll spend longer than that stuck off his feet in the infirmary anyway. So what next?"
Rhys doesn't back down, stays eye to eye with Fives, refusing to be shouted down.
"Spell it out for me dude. You think I should kick his ass? Strip down his cabin so he has nothing to do but lie there and hate everything? Yeah, that'll really curb those violent urges."
"My name is Fives, not dude," he snaps, because he will insist on that to anyone, any time, for any reason, but especially when he's already this pissed off.
"And he's a mass-murdering piece of osik who uses people as cannon fodder," he continues, not loud, but emphatic. "I doubt there's much that will curb his violent urges at all, but acting like killing people, or trying to, is a kriffing learning experience and everyone else on board is fair game for his personal growth is-" He pauses briefly, grasping for the phrase in the right language. "It's bullshit." Yes, he might still be a little bitter over Alan's approach to dealing with Ren, regardless of whether it got the skull-fucker off the barge in the end or not.
"Yeah, you're having a great time telling me what you think I'm saying, while avoiding admitting to what you're saying."
Rhys snaps. His face feels warm, and his heart's beating fast in his chest,
"You know that delicious stuff I was eating in that port? I showed you it, we talked about it, I tried to persuade Hux to try some, and he came and shot me in the back for it. So trust that I don't treat him doing this as necessary, or acceptable, or a justifiable loss, but fuck you if you think you're getting blood for the sake of blood."
"Did I ask for blood?" he demands. Because much as he'd like to he knows that's not an option, no more for Rhys than it is for him. "But it doesn't look like whatever you're doing so far has been any deterrent to him trying to kill people, so maybe you should fucking work on that. Because I've got a kriffing kid in the infirmary worried she's going to be a cripple because the only way that skull fucking shabuir knows how to deal with anything is by killing!"
"Two seconds ago you were yelling in my face that you didn't think it was possible to curb his violent impulses, and how I can't treat this as a learning moment, but you want me to deal with him and you want him to learn his lesson, and when I ask you to spell it out and tell me what you mean? You just double back to talking about what a skull-fucking, mass murdering monster he is, so that you don't have to say what you actually came here to say to me."
Because Fives might know that saying the actual word would be a direct line to conspiracy and demotion and never getting his deal, but everything about his approach to this sings to Rhys with the desire for retribution. Fives doesn't have the bearing of a warden and a colleague coming in search of a resolution or reassurance that his inmate will be safe. He's full of a red anger, and a sense of hatred and disgust that long predates this incident, and Rhys doesn't believe he'd be satisfied by anything short of a guarantee that Hux would suffer.
"So no, you didn't use your big boy words and ask for blood, but I hear you loud and clear, and you can go fuck yourself."
Fives grinds his teeth as he glares at Rhys, and his fists are clenching and unclenching at his sides. "No, I don't think he can curb his violent impulses because I don't think he cares to. I don't think he considers any of the rest of us to be people. But even he can't be too stupid to learn not to indulge them if the consequences are too high.
"All he learned from this is to take a kill shot instead of taking the risk of trying to incapacitate his victim first assuming he can take his time finishing them off after." Because he has absolutely no doubt that was what Hux was after, he would never have been in range of Selina's attack if he hadn't been stupid enough to saunter over thinking he could gloat and torment her before killing her.
"Take his toys away, take his privacy away, lock him in Zero to stare at the walls for a week once he gets out of the infirmary, haunt his kriffing steps. Make sure if he decides to kill someone again you're the only option because he can't get away from you."
